Let’s Check in On Days of Taste Spring 2022
Spring 2022 brought several transitions for Days of Taste. It was the first season without the leadership of Riva Kahn, who ran the program for more than 20 years, and who knew the details of it all inside and out. It was a time of transition from virtual sessions back to in person and sometimes somewhere in between. On June 7th, we will have successfully completed programs in 8 schools in 4 jurisdictions.
After 2 months of preparation, the past month has been quite a whirlwind, meeting so many new kids, teachers, farmers, and chefs. Then there is the coordination with suppliers, volunteers, and getting materials where they need to be at the right time. In addition, there’s the weather, and last minute schedule changes. With all the moving parts and influencing factors, it amazing how stable and consistent this long standing and influential program is.
We are very grateful for all the Farmers and Chefs who made Days of Taste possible this Spring by sharing their expertise, stories, and diverse cooking styles and farming methods to so many students.
The Spring Farm participants were Third Way Farm and Grandview Farm in Harford County, Mary’s Land Farm in Howard County, Bliss Meadows Farm in Baltimore City, and the Baltimore County Agricultural Center.
Spring Chef participants were Chefs Susan Muldoon, Deward Ray, and Jon Kohler from Harford County, and Chefs Audiel Rivera, Chris Amendola, and Zack Mills in Baltimore City.
