My Disney Meal
Written by Sydney, rising 9th grader
Hi! My name is Sydney, and I’m 13 years old. I just finished middle school, and I will be going to high school in August. My middle school experience was definitely unique. I went to school in 6th grade and missed 1/3 of it because of COVID. I missed my whole 7th grade year and my only normal year was 8th grade. While I was at home during in 7th grade, I was on TikTok a lot more often, because I didn’t have anything to do.
One day when I was on TikTok, I saw a video on my ‘for you’ page. There was a girl and her boyfriend and he had picked an envelope out of maybe 5 or 6 of them. They showed what was on the paper, and it was a meal plan based on the movie Tangled. At the end of the video, they watched the movie.
I loved the idea so I decided to do the same, except I did it with my mom. We did 4 meals last summer. Our first movie was Winnie the Pooh. The meal was “piglets in a blanket” and the dessert was “tigger tails.” Piglets in a blanket are just pigs in a blanket, while Tigger tails are pretzel sticks dipped in orange colored melted chocolate and drizzled with milk chocolate to make it look like a tiger.
The second movie we did was Toy Story. For the entrĂ©e, we did a “make your own pizza” night for Pizza Planet. The dessert was alien jello, which is lime jello with candy eyes on top. It represents the toy aliens in the claw machine.
The third movie we watched was Frozen. Our meal was “Swedish meatballs with mashed potatoes” and our dessert was “frozen fudge” which is fudge but with blue dye.
Then last movie we did last year was Tangled. I took the menu from the video I had previously seen. The main course was, Rapunzel’s magical golden angel hair Alfredo. The dessert was a donut tower. My favorite thing about doing these Disney meals is the cooking. I want to be a baker when I’m an adult. I like being able to cook the food because it challenges my abilities and lets me practice cooking. You may be wondering how I come up with the foods. I usually search on Pinterest and its easy to find things on there. If I can’t find anything, or I don’t like the ideas, I’ll go onto Google and search up _______ food ideas. The blank is whatever movie it is.
Sometimes I’ve already made the food which causes it to be easier to make. (The pigglets in a blanket and the pizza) When I haven’t made it before, I get excited because I get to expand my skills and hopefully learn how to cook something new. Our most recent movie was The Little Mermaid. I made shrimp scampi for dinner. For dessert, I made mermaid meringue cookies. I hope you are inspired to try this yourself!
